
Sending commands using an RS-232 connection
1. Use an RS-232 cable to connect a control PC or other RS-232 device to the RS-232
connector located on the rear panel of the SME100 (see the "Rear Panel Features"
section on page 12).
2. Open DataViewer (see the "Running DataViewer" section on page 119).
3. On the Communication Setup window (see figure 96):

a. Select the RS-232 tab.
b. Select values for the following fields.
• Com Port (default = COM1)
• Baud Rate (default = 9600)
• Parity Bit (default = None)
• Data Bit (default = 8)
• Stop Bit (default = 1)
• Handshake (default = None)
NOTE: COM1 is the default serial port. Communication can be established with
any unused Com Port by selecting the port from the drop-down menu.
c. Click OK. The Communication Setup window closes.
4. The main DataViewer window appears. Use the Commands field to enter SIS commands
and view the responses in the Responses field (see figure 95 on page 120).
